Our History

Comfort Systems USA, Southeast has an interesting and storied history. Neel Mechanical was founded in Thomasville, GA immediately following World War II in 1946.  Neel quickly developed a niche in the commercial and industrial construction markets of South Georgia and North Florida.  Gulfside Mechanical was started in 1985 to serve the commercial construction industry in and around Pensacola, FL.  Gulfside Mechanical was purchased in 1998 and Neel in 1999, by Comfort Systems USA.  Today, Comfort Systems USA has over 45 companies and is recognized as a premier national provider in the installation and service of heating, ventilating, air conditioning, plumbing, piping, building automation, and related services.  CSUSA Southeast is proud to be a part of the Comfort Systems USA family of companies.

In early 2005, Gulfside and Neel joined forces to become Comfort Systems USA Southeast.  This merger combined two companies very similar in size, offering, and culture to form an impressive construction group with both heavy piping skills of Neel together with the phenomenal sheet metal capabilities of Gulfside to create an even more impressive construction group.  The merger also facilitated the consolidation of HR, accounting, and IT functions.  With the 2005 year end close, the new company, CSUSA Southeast, exceeded previous recognized combined revenues by 160%.

With a firm grasp on the construction market, Southeast set out to develop a viable mechanical service operation.  The nucleus for this operation was made possible by the tuck in of an existing service office in Dothan, AL in 2005.  Another tuck in from a fellow CSUSA company in Mobile, AL in 2006 helped bolster the offering.  2006 also saw the consolidation of S&K Mechanical into CSUSA Southeast bringing construction and service capabilities in Valdosta, GA.  A brand new office was opened in Panama City, Fl in 2006 to serve the Gulf Coast area.  In late 2007, Southeast opened a brand new service office in Tampa, FL that is rapidly growing into a vibrant, successful operation.  To the north, the tuck in of a fledgling service business in Atlanta in 2008 gave Southeast a service presence in North Georgia.  CSUSA Southeast also opened new offices in Columbus, GA and Macon, GA in 2008.  Another office was opened in Augusta in 2009.

Southeast completed a merger with sister company, CSUSA Atlanta, in 2010 to bolster the construction and plumbing offering of Southeast in Atlanta and across the footprint.  Batchelors Mechanical was consolidated into CSUSA Southeast in March of 2011 to bring us to our current footprint of 13 offices covering Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana.  Combined revenues now exceed $60 million that is split approximately 60/40 between service and construction.
